Hey,

a massive peice of aadvise from you. Im randomly stumbled on your site whilst looking at phelps clips. What i would sugguest you do is make sure you have a technique in all 4 strokes which is efficient and correct before you even start doing high intensity stuff. You will want to spend this winter essentially building up to doing long slow steady mileage. By next year you will be wanting to average 44k a week minimum to then start looking at more specialised training. I stress the technique because without it you will have a sloppy inefficient stroke which will cause muscle imbalances which will cripple you later down the line. Hense the reason blastic stretching before you get in and static stretching when you get out to keep things nice an supple.

Phelps is a human phenomenon who is genetically suited to being a swimmer - but has also been brought up in a suitable environment for excellence to take place. Im sure your not aiming to get to the olympics (as you'll be 28 for one reason) but to get as far as you can. Your technique is the foundation for which fitness can be built upon.

Good luck with things in the future. Think smart - do lots of reading as it would appear you have lots to do!

Abit about me - i swam in the 2005 european youth olympic festival aged 15 and have broken various british age group records though i no longer swim - so i have had a slight dip into the insight of phelp's regeim. I now read sport and exercise science at the university of stirling scotland. you have a long long way to go my friend.

All the best

Mike

on your upper body pull...break your arm more, earlier... it's not bending enough...making it easier for the push of your arm to the side of your body...trim up on your upper thigh.. no offense.. it's too thick and it's killing your dolphin kick.....and on your flip turn..practice a glide coming into the wall, then as if you are doing the freestyle arm break, break BOTH arms simultaneously...this will aid your body into an easier and faster flip AND you will feel how your arms GRAB the water, literally, and thrusts your body to a fast flip turn...outside of all that... your reach is amazing.. you are making good use of the extension. :) cheers mate

Reply:
Thanks for the input, I will be sure to keep these things in mind for my next session.
